This week we've worked hard to draw what we see - zinnias, weeds, our hands, animals and faces... it's not easy. Why? What makes drawing difficult for some and impossible for others? What traits do "good" drawers have? Looking at some of the artistic behaviors I want you to develop over the course of the semester which of the three below applies best to learning to draw what you see and why?

I find that art can be both genetically obtained as well as taught. Those who must be taught consist of the overcomers of barriers and people that fear the assumed impossible. I find myself as one of the overcomers because I have improved my drawing of human body parts and animals. There are many people who struggle with this because they simply fear the "impossible." That is why they can't find the artistic side to them.

Drawing these realistic object is hard because I feel like we all have this idea that the final product of whatever we are drawing, has to look real. Artists who are successful at making a observational drawing that is eye appealing have practiced many different techniques using different media to find what they find the most appealing. I think that developing skills is the most important when is comes to learning to draw what you see. You get better at a drawing with more practice.

I like how you summed up what we are doing in class on this blog. It helps me so that I can look over it and fully understand what we are learning and the purpose. I enjoyed doing these drawings, because it helped me grow as a artist in your class. It was hard for me at first to make a drawing that looked so realistic. However, once I learned the terms and techniques (gesture, contour, whole-to-point), it helped me a lot.
